Why I Occasionally Regret That My Niche Has Become Mainstream:

Aug 27 2008

Ten years ago, no one would have reported this: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,410781,00.html

It HAPPENED, but it wouldn’t have been on Fox News. Okay, maybe Fox.

And how horrible am I for thinking that instead of dumping her, the guy should have been grateful she was in fact a she?

Hat tip to good ol’ Swanny for sending me the link.

Bonus hat tip to Scott for sending me this: http://news.cnet.com/8301-10784_3-10025123-7.html

It just gets better! The dog was making too much noise!

Sometimes, a picture really is worth a thousand words…

She has the crazy eyes! (long time lurker love the blog)

It crazy people like her that give MMO’s the stigma they do not deserve. That and idiots mortgaging their homes to buy virtual property in Second Life.

You’re right. I sort of wish we and our gaming were still in the basement.

  • I felt sorry for her until I read the part about her leaving her own dog wrapped in duct tape in the guys bathtub.

As an outspoken advocate of ‘Punishment fitting the crime’ I feel she should be duct taped and left in her own tub for a few days.

Sadly I can only agree. Talk about an indication of how much the times have changed huh?

although on the PLUS side we as a group are getting laid / seeing the sun more :D

Seeing the sun does not count if you’re only seeing it through the window of the police cruiser taking you to central booking!

It’s nice to have proof that women can be just as creepy as men. I had a hard time trying to convince a friend of that one over the weekend (female, obviously). It’s the 21st century! A woman can be just as good of a creepy Internet stalker as a man can, damnit! ‘Bout time they gave men a taste of their own medicine!

Joking aside, crazy people are just crazy. If it hadn’t been Second Life, this woman would have found some other person to do this to and likely would have been closer to home where she’d have a better chance of evading the police and/or inflicting real harm. I do dislike when the media tries to create a connection between an activity (online relationships in this case) and some sort of insane behavior.

I know of many online relationships that have worked out just fine (mainly the ones not involving me, natch) so to paint them with such a broad brush is just annoying and why I dislike a good chunk of the media strongly (though including Faux News as “the media” is stretching that definition a wee bit). The issue isn’t online relationships; it’s *crazy* people in online relationships. You can pretty much change online relationships to anything you want and it’ll still work.

Crazy people don’t make sense…that’s why they’re crazy!

  • Calarius says:

So, of course, it’s the fault of SecondLife, and all MMOs for that matter, that this woman is crazy. No evidence whatsoever that her insanity may have existed wholly outside of any technology. Thank you Fox (“fair and balanced”) News for making our entertainment the “Next Great Evil” of our civilization…again.

I get to see the sun all the time. I set up a webcam outside and set it as my desktop background.

    Whaddya mean that doesn’t count?

  • Paks says:

Why is it always the poor dog that has to suffer? /le sigh

.. oh yeah and she’s creepy! There’s nuts everywhere. If it hadn’t been something online this woman would have snapped from something else, no doubt.

I will echo the sentiment that dogs always get the short end of the stick. That’s what happens when you are loyal, loving, and cute. *ahem*

On a completely unrelated note, Sanya, any clue what is up with GamerDNA lately? I recently chose it to host my guild site because I know you work for them, but the site’s performance is… not really up to par.
