New Gig Alert

Apr 05 2010 Published by under Related To Work I'm Doing

You can read me trying to sound erudite three times a week at Metaverse Mod Squad’s blog.

The seven of you will probably not see any really new material, but hey, getting paid to blog is always ten kinds of awesome, so I thought I’d mention it here.

The Friday feature, BTW, is going to be Pro Tips From CMs. The MMS team is composed of a lot of terrific people who will no doubt have great material, but if any of you have a tip you’d like to see included, gimme a holler. I’ll post anon or with name and game link, as you choose.

Getting paid to a) do something you’d to anyway and/or b) do something you love is always pure win. Congratulations. ;)

  • Ysharros says:

Gah! I fail at typing. Do* anyway, bien sur. /slinks off

    Wheee! /scamper

    Grats!

I actually came here with the thought of posting “oh the irony … ” in your last blog topic after stopping here x days without a tasty new treat.

I read your post there … short and conservative to Sanya standards … but it sounds like a nice place IF the post two down from yours is sincere. If it is, then that there’s quite a nice pat on the back.

  • Chanell says:

Oh yay! Congrats *scurries off to read*

Sanya, I know this isn’t your doing but that blog looks like crap in a 1000 pixel wide window (don’t blame me for my work providing me the oldest flat screen in the known universe that maxes at 1280×1024). Text-wrapping should be a little more friendly to those of us forced to use slavemaster provided viewing methods. Jus’ sayin’.

So I was reading Lum’s blog about Copper working for Evony and then I saw your entry named “new gig alert” and for a moment was sure that you had joined the Evony team as wel…

  • DragonPup says:

Seriously, my heart sank reading that Copper sold himself to Evony. I know its a down economy, but damn.

Ysharros – at least when you typo no one sees it but us chickens. When I do it, it’s syndicated :P

Tom – Looks fine on MY computer, and doesn’t that mean everyone online has my experience?!! OMGZ. Okay, for real, will pass on, thanks.

Mordur/DP – My mortgage is under water. I can’t relocate from the DC metro area. My offspring needs to go to college and I need to see England before I die. For enough money, I’d do it, dudes. And truly it’s not like it was when the ads first came out. I’ve written some harsh stuff about them, but they’re flying right with Walt so far.

  • Aufero says:

Not blaming WY at all – I’d work for iffier enterprises than Evony to keep my family fed and housed.

Congrats on the new gig! Doing something you enjoy for pay is great.

  • Mordur says:

I was actually going to comment that if there’s one place the desperately needs you then Evony might just be that place.

Copper brings some cred to the place but from reading the Ars Techica article… http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/04/evony-speaks-to-ars.ars …there are plenty of muppets there that need weeding out.

I played the game for over 6 months and rather enjoyed it, the ingame system mails about all kinds of special offers, where the word “free” was whored around rather generously, trying to get players to spend cash. I finally gave up one the game because of the crazy amount of time needed to keep your troops at a level where your cities were reasonably safe while you went offline. It’s a RTS = real time stress game.

Sanya, perhaps I should clarify. It’s like seeing a friend who spent years at a culinary school cooking at a Wendy’s because the actual restaurants have no openings. Sure he may have the best Wendy’s in a 100 mile radius, but he’s still at a Wendy’s when he should be doing something more with his talent. :(

    Thanks for the concern guys,

Evony is a great fit for me now – for many reasons. First and foremost, I always, always, always advocated smaller clients, widely accessible, and alternative business models.

Browser based MMO___ is the wave of the future (er, now), and Evony already has a tech and team and advertising base to capitalize on that.

Like you, Mordur – the game is good – particularly when wars flare up and, you rush from computer to computer to keep your cities alive.

And, quite frankly, working remotely and spending more time with my kids while still paying for a ridonculous mortgage . . . also a good thing.
