I’m gonna need braaaaaaaaaaains!
I’m the community weenie for Undead Labs. They’re making a single player console game that will serve as their proof-of-concept for an MMO that won’t be like anything anyone has seen to date. Can’t get into it yet, obviously, but *someone* is actually trying the sandbox thing – and they invited me to get in on it early. I’m really psyched. Also, I’ve never done much with consoles, so I’m thrilled to have such a new professional challenge. Definitely won’t get away with coasting on this one.
If you were paying attention to my quality of life rant, you may remember that I didn’t think there was such a thing as a game company that valued such things. I might have been wrong. We’ll see!
Anyway, I gotta get back to it. Need to get things rolling! Holler at my new work email (sanya AT undeadlabs DOT com) if you wanna be on my spam bribe mailing list.
Color me intrigued
Congrats to you! I hope it’s a great success
Huh, a game studio making a console game and then an MMO…sounds familiar. Hope that goes better!
The MMO is on console as well.
Class 3 is their co-op console game which will have a lot of the underlying features required to make the MMO version work well. They are making it as a proof of concept and to get insight into what works and what doesn’t as well as making a fun game.
Class 4 is their MMO which will bring to life the tools utilized in Class 3 and make it a full blown zombie apocalypse.
I hope it’s successful. Since they’re doing zombies, I really doubt I’ll try it. A lot of people do enjoy zombies regardless of my lack of interest, so there’s a market there for some good games!
Nice intro there … zombies give me the heebie jeebies too.
I only have one question: are there jetpacks?
Grats on a new gig that interests you. I’ve come to the personal conclusion that being interested in what you are doing is important to happiness and sanity.
Never been a big console player. I do a little playstation stuff, well I did until they were hacked. It has collected dust since then. Maybe there will be a port or it’ll be interesting enough for me to undust a console. I’m always up for a good zombie killing spree.
Congrats! They were smart to snap up THE Community Weenie of Community Weenies! That right there gives them a ton of points in the plus column for me.
It sounds interesting…though as someone above said…zombies do kinda give me the heebie jeebies!
I just hope this one actually makes it to the Xbox.
Every other company that’s tried Xbox + MMO has had to scrap the idea.
For some reason a few have made it to PS3, but as yet (unless I’m missing one) Xbox hasn’t made it.
I’m pretty confident in Jeff Strain. He’s one of the key figures in bringing Guild Wars to the light of day, which broke a lot of new ground for its day. I think some of the AN devs went to work for Undead Labs, too, so there are some very good people on those projects.
Best of luck on the new gig. Maybe sometime you can tell us how the company culture is different and how you believe that has an impact on the development process.
Sweet. I hope this goes well. Love the Undead Labs site. Very cool. Might want to do a tie in with the “Zombie Apocalypse Survival Team” . They do disaster preparedness training for police/fire . . . ect., so it is a legit group. Anyway, awesome!!
Looks very interesting, now I have two zombie games to look forward to!
Good luck and fingers crossed for this one
I love the idea, but I don’t currently own a console nor am I likely to for several years yet – not until Tremaynelette #1 is old enough to bully her mother into letting daddy plug a gaming gadget into the lounge. Until then it’s the PC in the study for me (and the Tremaynelettes who can practice running the little hobbit lady around the Shire). Here’s hoping for a PC port of the successful zombie game!
Well good luck, but I tend to utilise other people’s barge poles with outfits that use this type of language “We are (very) excited ” regarding their products and communications (to me it’s like being on a train, hearing the bridge over the ravine is down, the brakes have failed, and you are now on the steep descent to where the bridge was).
It’s an ‘Alarm Bells’ thing that absolutely screams ‘Exit! Stage Left! Yesterday or Sooner!’. How come the Gaming Industry is paying people to be ‘excited’? Shouldn’t they be paying them to ‘deliver’? And when I say ‘deliver’, I don’t mean ‘Dry Rot’ or ‘Wallet Weevils’ either.
To see it used on their Homepage, is very disheartening, tbh. Do they smoke bath salts or something, and actually want to become zombies, because they already have a head start due to being brain dead?
Such terminology is all too common amongst those types whose only ability is the bulk manufacture, of the wrong type of ‘Luck’. The Bad Kind[tm]. If applied in time, a swift ‘upside the head’ with a 4 x 2 can resolve the situation (can you fit a baseball bat in your handbag?).
However, there are exceptions to every Rule, so hopefully, this is one of them.
But I won’t be holding my breath.
Sorry to hear the other thing didn’t pan out.
I suppose I should add, the employment of people whose frame of reference was the use of such ridiculous and amateurish drivel, seems to uniformly end up delivering a gaming experience that’s almost up to the stimulation level of watching paint dry.
